Kaemon's Birthday!

Our little Kaemon ain't so little anymore!  We are so blessed and love our K-monster: bright, luminous, sweet, affectionate, relaxed, epicurean, funny, cuddly.

He turned two three!! The curse of the birthday cake struck again, Like Nelson's 1st 'Birtday' cake flubble, Kaemon's cake had 2nd birthday 2x and 2 candles before I realised my mistake... Lucky he didn't notice

THanks to all for the birthday wishes, presents, cards, thoughts! We had a fantastic birthday!!!  Lots of friends, food, pinata and fun.

The house is poxed!

First Kaemon got it (1 day after coming back from Barcelona thank goodness) but it was mild, not even worth a photo! He then passed it on to Nelson who was covered from head to toe and more than a week later is still offcially contagious (blisters on his fingertips!). Poor miserable baby...

He's a little better now, scabs dropping all over the place like confetti...

It was cake-making time again, Akemi's birthday- with three boys in the house, I like any excuse to make something girly.

The sad story of nelson's cake.

The pandas represent Kaemon and Nelson, and they were supposed to be tug-of-warring and Nelson wins (as usual) but the low-lying lid of the cake box didn't allow for pandas to be frolicking on top of the cake. And having an letter 'H' left over at the end of the cake making had me wondering why I made and extra one... So, happy birtday to you Nelson! (Thanks Ingrid :)

So, Kaemon ended up hanging on the side of the cake...

Nelson 'helping' him up.

A technical mistake with the foundations of the cake caused the downfall of this cake, after 2 days in the fridge, the icing was melting something Bad like Michael Jackson's face.

General Things

Laundry, Kaemon style

Cupcakes, my style (quick and dirty) for playgroup's second birthday

One for my husband

Nelson is officially eating with the pot. (Translation from dutch- means he's eating grown up food)!

Gerco & Charlotte 4 eva!

I love weddings, yes I do. It's usually the manic happiness making it a shining point in life. Everywhere you turn manic smiles, everyone happy happy joy joy! The bride and groom were radiant and resplendent.

Beautiful Old Mansion in the forest, decorated in Art Deco style and a intruiging Shell-Horn-Mahogany Decor theme (Pau shells, with buffalo horn on massive dressoirs= lavish)

Brings the romance out in all...

I made a token cake (with three boys in the house, when do I ever get a chance to make flowers???????)

the food: the main course, cornish hen with tarragon sauce was...well, cornish hen with tarragon sauce and broccoli and mashed potato. But the entree, tatare of salmon with asparagus, was a delectable coarse chop of fresh salmon, dill that was tart and fragrant, making me want to use words such as delightful, delish and om-nom-nom-nom it's gone!
A lovely sunny day, nice catching up with friends and hanging out in luxury for a day.

Hylke's 65th

Cake- modelled on the ANRO asia, a container ship on which Hylke sailed on long ago... I like the water flurry in the wake of the boat the best!

Food-I've never made such neat and tidy nigiri sushi before!

Late edit: Yes there were people at the party, not just food!

erm........the very last post about Kaemon's Birthday (Week). This is really the end, until next year!

Nelson tries very hard to escape his diet of boiled vegetables and fish. He wants to EAT CAKE!!

Kaemon had such a good time at his birthday party with friends, he sat and stuffed himself with popcorn and grapes and pretzel sticks and birthday cake and sugar cookies...and the inevitable happened, he couldn't hold all of it down...however, I was reassured by other mothers that this is a rite of passage for a child's birthday party. Too much of a good thing...

This birthday is starting to feel like one of those week-long Indian marriage celebrations...tomorrow is with the (extended) family and there's another cake.

Birthday Boy

The Big Two! Kaemon's name means joyful. TOday he was so happy at the indoor playground, in the middle of playing, he grabbed my hand, held it and said 'zo. zo.' (NL: like this) and we just had to sit and hold hands for a while. Who said little boys were made of slugs and snails and puppy dogs tails- kaemon's all sugar and spice!! Completely edible.

Tomorrow's Birthday (Party) Cake (I promise the next one has NO cars on it)

'Twas the night before....

Kaemon's Birthday, when all through the house, we were all stirring, and baking decorating the house!!

Although we're playing it cool, I made this cake (one of three for kaemon in the upcoming week's celebrations and douwe brought a giant helium balloon and hid it in the laundry. Here's a sneak peak...*shhh* don't tell Kaemon!!! (It's chocolate mud cake...mmmm)

I experimented with cake decorating, however, having the attention span of a goat (slightly better than a goldfish, but not as good as a chimpanzee) I'll hold off before saying I have a new hobby. But I'm hopeful...
